There Are Days
By Mackenzie Collins
In the fall when you look up and hear the birds or even the soft whisper of the wind through the trees. Which now auburn and copper shine. Staring up into the sky through that small circle cut through the forest's roof. Looking at the white sky through its canopy. Seeing the world as only you can see.
For the world is a horrid place. But not here…not in this moment. The war, the sorrow, destruction and death. None of that matters. Only this moment. The gentle caress and whispers of the wood around. Trees so delicately swaying, unlike people who are only swayed by the greed and hate this world has now become enraptured in. But in this moment, there is peace. A calm you never have thought could exist. For you above all else who loves humanity knows, that it is slowly failing. So far have we come and yet….so high and righteous are we now, that it only gives us a further distance to fall. But even in this world so filled with hate and sorrow, there is hope. Beauty in the love we share with one another. The love between mother and child, or the kindness of a meal for someone who could not eat. Yes, hope is a wonderful thing. And perhaps not all is lost. For if there is one thing you know…it’s that humans become their greatest when faced with the worst this world has to offer.
And on days like that…You’re glad to be alive.
