The Betrayal
When I looked out the window of the spaceship, I saw a large object coming straight at us at remarkable speed. The only thing to do was…nothing! The asteroid would be upon us in seconds! All Rosh and I could do was scream. My life flashed before my eyes. It is true, when death stares into the eyes of a soul, all memories flash through the eyes, every memory zooming by.
I closed my eyes and waited…waiting for it to be over. A minute went by. Another minute had gone by, seeming like an hour. Nothing, no movement, or even a shiver down the cartilage of my spine. I gazed out the window, and saw nothing. It was not there anymore. I couldn’t understand how something so big could have disappeared so quickly. I hustled over to the other side.
The asteroid was there. I pondered over this for a while. How could it have gone through us? Did it even go through us? Did we somehow move out of the way? I couldn’t figure this out. One thought did cross my mind, a hologram. That’s it! It had to be a hologram! We didn’t move out of the way or it didn’t go around us. I had to test this theory of mine first. I had to zoom over to a near rock to test it.
I turned to Rosh to ask him for help. He had fallen unconscious. I had carried him to his cot to let him rest. I jumped into the cockpit’s driver seat and buckled up. I took my time approaching the rock just in case I was wrong. I crept along slowly. I had about five yards before the front end would impact the rock. I closed my eyes.
I was bracing myself for impact. A minute later, nothing. Opening my eyes, I was on the other side. I was right. It was a hologram. Looking all around, I had noticed that all the asteroids were orbiting around Dxun. If these were all holograms, then something must be doing something on the planet. Whoever was there, they must be breaking the ISC (Interstellar Space Codes). Why else would they need to make someone think that this planet was inhabitable? Something smelled gargarean and it sure wasn’t me!
I had to fly in to see if they were breaking the code. As a senior officer, it is my duty to keep peace between all races and species. I was starting to speed up to get there as fast as I could. I was flying through the holograms without a care in the world. The most horrible mistake I have ever made my life. I ran into an asteroid faster than the speed of sounds. The ship ripped apart, Rosh flying out like a bullet. My seat kept me strapped in along with it as it flew out of the cockpit. Drifting off into the emptiness of space…running low on air…cannot breathe…getting light headed…eyelids becoming weights…blackness consuming the area around me…going…going…gone.
Or so I thought. Ice cold water flew into my face. I jumped up readying myself for an attack from my enemy. Atton Rand stood there observing my irises. Gazing around, I saw Canderous and Sgt. Roycewicz gawking at me. “Atton,” I stated.
“Good to see you to Capt. Minami,” Atton saluted.
“Status report!” I demanded.
“Yes sir! After you took the rescue vessel with Rosh, all hell broke loose. The electronics started going haywire, the power was surging, lights exploding and lucky it was only the lights on the ceiling. We saw you run right into that asteroid, what happened?”
“Nothing! Continue.”
“We recovered you as soon as possible, but Rosh on the other hand…we could not find him.” Atton whispered looking at his feet.
“Can I voice my opinion sir?” Canderous asked finally speaking up.
“Go ahead,” I answered looking at the floor
“I personally, think that Rosh was captured,” Canderous stated.
“Captured?” I screamed. “What makes you think that?”
“Well for a matter of fact, I saw a ship cruising by some asteroids,” he stated.
“And you didn’t happen to speak up? Where did you find this guy?” I screamed at both of them.
“He was put on the ship by the elders,” Atton stated.
“What makes you good enough for my ship?” I barked at Canderous.
“I graduated at the top of my class…sir,” Canderous glared at me.
“Don’t you ever take that tone and use it in my ship son or I’ll boot you out of this door quicker that you can say slippery hairy slimy slugs!” I bellowed. I don’t know why I said that, it was the first thing that came into my mind.
We glared at each other for at least two minutes. I gave in. I couldn’t stare into those eyes much longer. There was something evil in those eyes, I could feel it. If I had to stare into those eyes for another minute…I can’t think about what might happen. I see death in those eyes wanting to escape and unleash upon someone…probably me. “I’m retreating to my quarters,” I exhaled. I regret saying retreat.
“We’ll watch things for you…sir,” Canderous glared once more.
“Wake me at o’ nine hundred,” I yawned.
An hour later I awoke to a crashing noise from the cockpit. I jumped up and rushed to the scene. Atton’s face was impaled by the steering mechanization. Instantly I knew it had to be Canderous. No one could have possibly have boarded us. I had to find him and restrain him; I couldn’t let that happen to me.
I wandered the ship cautiously, watching every step I make. I did not give my position away. I needed to be stealthy if I didn’t want to die, and of course, I did not want to die! Veering corners with more caution than I needed, but I need to bring Canderous to justice. While rounding corner number fourteen, yes I counted so I wouldn’t lose where I was, Canderous was lying dead by room number twenty-five.
“Canderous?” I asked cautiously. No reply. I crept ever so slowly over to him. I had to examine him to determine the cause of death. Nothing seemed wrong. The front side of him checked out, but when I examined his back, oh man! He had two holes the size of those dollar coins from Earth. I stood and left at that instant, for if I would have stayed, I might as well have been dead.
“Chlk-addge-djfie.” A raspy voice from behind me whispered.
I winced at the tone of it. The hair on the back of my neck had stood as tall as a mountain.
“Chlk-addge-djfie.” The raspy voice whispered again.
I turned slowly toward the voice. I couldn’t believe what I saw! It was Rosh! His throat had something around it, which would explain the raspy unknown language.
“Rosh! I can’t believe it’s you!” I jumped with joy. At that moment, I realized that Rosh wasn’t…Rosh. His blaster was held to my head. I felt a hot searing pain in my head and all turned to black.
I closed my eyes and waited…waiting for it to be over. A minute went by. Another minute had gone by, seeming like an hour. Nothing, no movement, or even a shiver down the cartilage of my spine.
