Listen to I am the Lone Wolf
I am the Lone Wolf
by Anonymous
I am the lone wolf.
I am the stranger, the face on the fringe of the group, always watching and listening, but rarely contributing.
Bouncing from table to table, forever in motion.
Maybe I am purposely excluded from the group, an amusing toy for generations of conscienceless children.
Maybe I am invited to join by adolescents whose youthful fervor has cooled, but hold back because I have received nothing but pain and abuse from people, and I do not wish to open myself to perceived attack.
Maybe I long for the joy of friendship, the gentle caress of a relationship, but stay back for fear that my lack of social graces will destroy what little reputation I have.
One day, I hope, I will find a pack of other loners. A place of like-minded personas, where I can be accepted.
Be loved.
Until that day, I will remain the silence, the quietness that haunts the fleeting edges of conversation.
So next time my back is turned, and you say “Hey, look at that freak, what’s wrong with him?” just remember: I’ve got my reasons, just as you have yours.
